Royal Brackla

First Society bottling in 1988.

The first distillery to be granted a Royal Warrant (by William IV in 1835, renewed by Queen Victoria in 1838), it was for a time referred to as The King's Own Whisky. The distillery was rebuilt in the 1890s and again in the 1960s, closed in 1985 and reopened in 1991. During the demolition of a warehouse in 1994 a huge hive of bees was discovered in a wall. The queens were carefully removed and returned to pagoda-shaped beehives! It is not common as a single.
