This distillery was founded beside the castle of Easter Elchies close to one of the few fords across the Spey. Until 1996, it was independent and controlled by descendants of the man who bought it in 1892. The proprietor traditionally bottled its single malts from sherry butts and although recently the range was extended to include bourbon matured whisky.
