The distillery was designed by a past president of the Royal Academy, and was the first to be built on Speyside in the 20th century. The Whisky Heritage Centre, Edinburgh, has a fine working model of it. It was sold to Whitbread & Co in 1975, and thus joined Allied Distillers.
