Dense and richly scented. A rummage through hardwood furniture, sweet, cherry-infused tobacco, strawberry shisha, aged plum wine, five-spice, mint cordial and dark liqueur chocolates. Vapour rubs, waxes, aged pu-erh teas, jasmine, cloves and stem ginger in syrup. With water there's brown bread covered in caramelised brown sugar, aged rum, fermenting banana, pineapple cocktails and sweet madeira-enriched custard. The mouth is sweet and syrupy, immensely warming and riddled with complex spices, dark fruit jams, cooking oils, wood resins, black pepper, damson chutney, lime syrup and rosewater. Lychee juices, kumquat, herbal ointments and black truffle. Water brings out more rum notes - almost tropical and estery now. Ancient rum for sailors and scurvy knaves! Toasted sesame seeds, fruit salad juices and mixed dried herbs. Flavours dart to and fro like prying eyes!
