Say hello to Kelvin

Say hello to Kelvin
15 January 2019

The new SMWS branch in Hong Kong is in good hands with local ambassador Kelvin Tam, one of the best-known faces in the Chinese whisky scene

Kelvin Tam has over 30 years’ experience as a specialist in the drinks industry, and was a pioneer in bringing single malt whisky to China. He’s been honoured as a life member Keeper of the Quaich in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the Scotch whisky industry, and was a co-founder of the Whisky Academy.

Kelvin is also one of the few English-language instructors of baijiu for non-Chinese, and has extensive knowledge and skills in the manufacturing, appreciation, training, sales and marketing of single malt whisky, wine, beer, international and Chinese spirits. He has also managed a baijiu distillery and two beer breweries, with in-depth experience in every aspect of the distilling and brewing process.

Kelvin’s accreditations include being a Certified Specialist of Spirits and of Wine by the Society of Wine Educators, holding an Advanced Certificate from Wine and Spirits Education Trust, and being a Professional Sommelier with the Vocational Council.
“I’m extremely pleased to not only introduce myself as your local ambassador in Hong Kong but to be the first to announce some exciting developments we have planned over the coming weeks,” says Kelvin.

“With our new website smws.hk you’ll be able to follow our local news, as well as buy a unique selection of our rare single cask bottlings. I’ll also be hosting a regular programme of tastings and we’re looking to extend our network of partner bars.
“It’s a wonderful time to be a Society member and I look forward to being able to meet up over a dram soon. I’ll be sharing more development news as soon as it happens. In the meantime, if you’d like to get in touch with any questions or suggestions for partner bars or tastings in your area please contact us at memberservices@smws.hk."
