Converted from an old meal mill in 1957 by Chivas Bros, across the River Deveron from their Strathisla Distillery it is situated in downtown Keith. It was the first distillery to be built in Scotland since 1899 and was a very modern complex for its time (and continues to use advanced technology). It employed the first gas-fired stills, and was originally set up for a form of triple distillation. Since 1970, there have been five stills. It is now owned by Pernod Ricard who mothballed it in 1999 before extensive works took place. The distillery reopened in 2013.
