Description
Someone is driving a burning tractor through a fug of boiler smoke in your general direction. There’s camphor, slow-roast mutton, marzipan and sheep wool. Also metal polish, lanolin, silage and coal dust. Peppery waxes hold it all together. Water brings out the medicine: gauze, calpol, putty, tree bark, cured meats, soft antiseptic and green peppercorns in brine. In the mouth it starts with paraffin, soots peats, mercurochrome, pine resins, bacon fat, salted peanuts, almond oil, hessian cloth, dunnage, salted lemons and popcorn. Reduction brings in the chopped chives, salted butter, crushed aspirin, fir liqueur, cough sweeties, roasted beetroot, smoked German beer and creamy oatmeal stout.
