Bruichladdich

First Society bottling in 1985.

The most westerly of Scottish distilleries overlooks Loch Indaal from the north west side, and its Gaelic name means "The Brae on the Shore". It has some charming old equipment, and was mothballed in 1995 but re-opened in 2001. Its main malt is light and delicate for an Islay, although it has started distilling a second malt that is more typical of the region and a third which will be the most heavily peated malt in Scotland.
