The first distillery at Mill of Banff (founded 1824) was closed in 1863 and replaced by a new one at Inverboyndie, not far away. This was hit by a stray bomb during World War II, when thousands of gallons of whisky were lost, and even the farm animals in neighbouring fields were intoxicated.
